Watch out

My dad sent me this in the mail the other day. I asked Dennen if he would pretend to attack me so I could spray him in the eyes. He said "no." Come on Denn, I need to practice. I can see why he's hesitant though, if this stuff actually does what it claims to, "making grown men cry since 1975." Yes please. I am not a gun person at all. I just don't think I could honestly shoot someone. Could you? Pepper spray on the other hand... Easy peesy!

In other news, we are kind of coming off of a vacation high. My mom, Megan, and Tyler came to visit and we had a blast! From going to beaches, to lighthouses, to festivals, to eating tons of pastries, we're left feeling a little bit wanting... I'm actually trying to care about doing the everyday up-keep with making meals and putting away the laundry (both of which I haven't done), and it's kind of difficult.

I'll soon be posting about their visit, and all the things we did. So stay tuned...

Off to school

Finn knows where dad is every day now. School. Dennen is studying really hard and we're proud of him. The other day Finn found his backpack that the home health company gave him. It was for his feeding pump when he had his NG tube so he could carry it around with him during the day (although we never used it). He's never really been that interested in it. I'm pretty sure he had a bad association with it... But now, he's hooked and loves wearing it!

He's also my trusty running buddy. We go running most days, which is nice. The sidewalks in Maine are kind of lacking though. They are extremely bumpy from all the tree roots pushing them up, which results in a less than smooth ride. We are able to do a lot of fun active things here. Tomorrow Finn and I are going to his first swim lesson! I hope he likes it okay...

Some of our place

The place we're renting is extremely close to the ocean. We love it! I can run there in about 5 minutes. Yesterday I decided to take Finn on a run. Start time - 7:30am. Stop time - 9:20am. Why so long you ask? I got lost. Very lost.

I kept running down roads that I thought led to ours, only to have my hopes dashed by a dead end. Then I would turn around and do the same thing again. Finally, when I knew I was really lost (and really tired) I asked a lady walking her dog how to get back to our street. It turns out that I was headed in completely the wrong direction, to the next town, Falmouth. There are no landmarks dag-nab-it! How am I supposed to navigate here?! Next time I'll have to bring our GPS. Anyway, my 40 minute run turned into a 1/2 marathon. Good thing Finn never complained. He's such a good little running buddy!

One of my hobbies is interior design. I love it! I really like collecting meaningful pieces for our home. Here is our living room all finished. Our apartment is super bright with lots of windows. I really like it. I'll take more pictures of the rest of our place when it's all finished. But for now, here are a few pictures. And no. It's not usually this clean.

Last Logan hoorah and Gruesome Grizzly 8K

It's official we've moved to Utah Valley! We'll be in Orem while Dennen applies for PA school. And then it's off to, Oregon, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, or perhaps New York (yeah, pretty much anywhere). We are sooo excited to be closer to family and a lot of our old buddies!!  At the same time, Logan was a great place to live (I lived there 6 years and Dennen 5). We have so many great memories of Logan and have met so many fun people, that we kind of had mixed emotions about moving. But it's like my Grandpa Mel says, "change is good." So we're happy with our decision. Here is a list of fun things we did / things we'll miss in Logan.

  • Oneeda Narrows Hot Springs
  • Riverdale Resort Hot Springs
  • Biking around the Wellsville mountains
  • USU cycling team
  • Numerous hikes
  • Meeting lifelong friends
  • Camping
  • Mountain biking
  • Demo Derbys
  • Fairs
  • Tandori Oven, Chespita Bakery, Charlies
  • Hanging out with all my siblings
  • Living right by a University

On one of our last days there Dennen and I went hiking with one of my good buddies, Lisa, who was in my grad program with me. She has a little boy, Benson, who is three months younger than Finn. Here are some pictures of our hike on the Crimson Trail.

Oh, and props to my friend for also being 4 months pregnant and doing this hike with us. She toted her little guy the whole way, and Yes, I did offer to carry him. But she did just fine.

Yesterday, Dennen and I ran a trail race at Canyon Glen called the Gruesome Grizzly 8K. I love races, the atmosphere, food, and everything! This one was pretty darn tough though. Dennen got 9th for his age group and I got 4th (there were a lot more guys, so Dennen had quite a bit more competition than I did). We're running another one on July 16th at Big Springs. We'll have a bit more time to train for the next one, so that will be good. Here are the pictures from our race.
