It has been decided

After taking everyone's comments into consideration (you are all very passionate about this topic), Dennen and I have come to a decision about our Christmas tree.

For this year we are going with a good ol' fakey tree because we don't have money to spend on a tree. I have been convinced though, that having a real tree is a good way to go. I think that I would really like the smell! We will definitely have a real tree in the years to follow. I kind of feel bad about hacking down a perfectly good tree too, so we might have a tree that we could plant after we were done using it. Like what this old timer chose to do.

As for the ornaments... I think we are going to go for a matching base with a few unique ones that are sentimental. We already have two really cool ornaments from Germany and one from Peru. I think it would be cool to have ornaments from places we've been. What do you think?

I like the gathering ornaments from where you go idea. We had that idea as well, and I think we only have two haha. Not that we haven't been anywhere (well, not as as cool as you have), but we forget. We have one from our honeymoon, so that's good!

we did traveling ornaments growing up and Jared and I do it now--we just have 5 or 6, so I'm waiting til we get a bigger collection then I'll have a small tree just for those.
I'm excited to see your tree all decorated!

I like your decision. That's sort of how my mom did her tree, too. Lots of matching ornaments, but then she also collected heart ornaments so there were various hearts. Then we had some from Israel and different places we lives. (And all of our ugly kid ones went in the back where no one but us would know they were there..haha) You'll have to post a picture of your tree when it's up!

Sounds like a plan.

In the future, we are going to get a permit from the National Parks service. Every year in Colorado they give out a certain number of permits for people to go into the parks and chop down a tree. It is part of the forestry depts efforts to maintain healthy forests. I don't feel too bad chopping down a tree that the government has already deemed necessary to remove.

Not sure if they do that in Utah...
