If you ask him if he has a joke to tell you, he'll start laughing. It's pretty cute! He's very coordinated and will balance on the cement strip that goes around the wood chips at the playground. Speaking of playground... I asked him if he wanted to go to the playground the other day and he started jumping up and down (I guess that means yes). I said, "go get your hat and coat." He ran into the other room and got them and was already headed out the door. He's pretty good at following directions too.
My parents went to Yuma, AZ this last weekend to visit my grandparents that live down there during the winters. They brought Finn back a bubble gun that he thinks is soooo cool! It makes sounds and lights up. Plus you don't have to get light-headed from blowing bubbles.

I have no idea about when kids should be saying what, but Garrett knows practically everything there is to know. Do you want him to call and you guys can talk about it? Or we can skype with you and Finn and see what Garrett thinks?

I wouldn't be to concerned about his speech just yet. If he did not understand you, could not name pictures you point out in books, or use any words would make me think of possible hearing loss. At 21 months, kids are expected to use 50 words, some two word combinations, and follow one step directions. The fact that he is following two step directions, understands important words like "park" and uses sign to get what he wants tells me his language skills overall are on par or better. Speech can be delayed for a number of reasons, but I wouldn't worry yet. Encourage him to use his words and get excited when he does. I can send you the Denver II, it's the guidelines used by the American Academy of Pediatrics to assess developmental milestones if you want it.
I need one of those bubble things! Macie would die.
Finn is so darn cute. I love the way you dress him, the little puffy vest kills me! And I wouldn't worry too much about the talking yet. My best friend's little boy was the same way and he talks just fine now, at 2 and a half. And my other friend's little boy just turned two and he says even less than Finn. So I think it's probably not all that uncommon. It sounds like he still communicates with you really well. Oh, and I think it's hilarious that one of his words is slug! :)
There are so many things to worry about when you're a mom! I'd ask Garrett but I ask him things like this all the time. In fact he's my go to guy on that kind of thing (even before Dan most of the time).
I tend to be a worrier too so know saying this probably won't really make you worry less, but I wouldn't worry about it! Haha. Cody didn't talk much at all until a month ago. Then all of a sudden he started talking up a storm just in the past couple weeks. It's like they change overnight. I'm sure soon you will wake up and you'll be wishing he would be quiet for two seconds:)

Don't worry about the slow to talking...it is pretty common with first children. Conrad was the same way and I was worried too. It seemed to come almost overnight eventually. The rest of your kids will pick up talking much faster with Finn's help :)
