Europe

As soon as school got out in May this year, we had a dilemma of whether or not to go back to Alaska for the summer. We were both burnt out from our jobs and decided to travel instead...

We headed off to Europe! Dennen's dad used to work for Delta, so we get to fly on buddy passes (just if you were wondering how we could afford this). We got to fly business class, which was soooo schwanky! They even give you warm towels to wipe your hands before meals. I didn't know about this strange custom, and I was awoken from my slumber with a tray of towels in front of my face. In my groggy state I thought, mmmmm tasty rolls... and proceeded to bite into the towel. I came to the realization pretty quickly that they were not rolls. I'm just glad no one saw me try to eat my hand towel.

Dennen's mom is German, so they have a lot of relatives there that we spent some time visiting with. Dennen's buddy Ryan Evans and his wife Rachelle came with us to Europe. It was nice because Ryan served a mission for our church in Germany and Austria, so he is fluent in German. Dennen got really good at speaking German as well.

After we were in Germany for about a week we headed out on our road trip. We went to Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Dennen's mom has a car in Germany that we were able to use for our trip. We saw so many amazing sites! We hiked in the Alps, saw The Ice Man, ate at a restaurant that was on top of a mountain, ran through fields of grape vineyards, ate goat cheese from a local farmer in Switzerland and more.

I'm so lucky to have a mother-in-law that is German. I probably would have never gone to Germany otherwise. Dennen has been countless times since his childhood. We plan to go with our kidos too, so that they can see their relatives there. I'm so excited to go back!!

Haha, Hilary didn't anyone ever teach you not to eat non-edible things? :) Just so you know, I'm sooo jealous of your trip! I went to Europe a couple years ago and am dying to go back with Patrick. Who knows when it will happen, though...we need some relatives over there!
