Over the break...

I read this book called The Joy of Living. I enjoyed it thoroughly. How many of us are always looking to the future to be happy? Thoughts like, "I'll be happy when I graduate, when I have my first home, when I get married, when I have kids, when the weekend comes." I know that I have done this quite a bit throughout my life. It's a hard cycle to get out of too.

This book really helps by making you aware of your thoughts and emotions, and learning that you are the person in control of those feelings of unhappiness. I feel like I am generally a happy person, but sometimes I do get into a rut. Circumstances do not determine our level of happiness, according to this book and other research done on the topic. They only play 10% of a role in our overall happiness.

My thought for the day is to live in the moment. I hope that I can learn to be more content with my life (that doesn't mean not improving) and love what I'm doing every day!
