Computer class 101

Dennen and I are teaching an 8 week introduction to computers to people in our community. It's once a week on Tuesdays for 2 1/2 hours. This is a very basic class, like how to turn on the computer, what a USB port is, where to type a web address, emailing, and more. We have quite a few ESL students (Peruvian, Colombian, and Korean) which is always difficult but entertaining nonetheless.

It's fun to see our class get so excited when they learn something new. Last night a lady in our class named Maria (she's Colombian) double high fived the lady next to her when she figured out how to attach a picture to an email. It was awesome. This same lady clapped her hands whenever she completed a typing exercise during our learning how to type lesson.

Many of them can't get jobs because they don't have basic computer skills (like typing). I think this is something many of us take for granted. We grew up with computers and it's very natural for us to know how to use them. For these people it isn't.

We had an assignment last night where they had to comment on our blog post. Check it out, I think they did a pretty good job.

I love the earrings that I bought off of etsy from you. I get a lot of comments on them. That is so exciting that you are pregnant! We just had a baby boy, Wakefield. Being a mom is so hard! But it is also fun. Congratulations!
