Rowan's gravestone

We were really worried that the place we got to make Rowan's gravestone wouldn't have it done by when we would be leaving. They were able to get it in yesterday. I am so happy they did!

I never thought that funerals and gravestones were that big of a deal when it came to closer. The only funerals that I had been to growing up were for older people that were usually sick and it was their time to leave their broken bodies. In a way, certain deaths seem to bring much needed relief. I can't even really remember crying at those type of funerals.

Rowan's was different. Much, much, different. We needed the graveside service. It helped so much with our healing process. Her gravestone has helped as well. I'm glad it turned out so beautiful. I gave the people who made it one of her hand print's and they were able to etch it into the stone. Another neat thing about her marker, is that the length of it (not including the cement) is 16 inches. That's exactly how long she was. There's something about associating memories with certain objects that helps us hold on to those memories we have of her tighter. I'm glad we have them.

The headstone looks very nice, I love the little hand print etch, its very special. I like how you have associated meanings to it. We'll be sure to stop by it every so often on our walks. We live very close to the area.

How special to have her hand print and that is is exactly how tall she was. We will make sure to visit every time we go see Dan's mom's grave. The other day I saw an old soccer picture of you, when you were super young on facebook. You were the cutest little girl EVER! I couldn't help to think if Rowan would the cute short red head kicking butt in soccer too:)

I'm so glad you were able to get her gravestone in before you guys left. It is beautiful! I love how you were able to get her hand print on there. So precious and neat that every time you go to see her you can put your hand up against hers. When we go to visit Jude next time we will have to go say hi to baby Rowan.

I'm so happy this was in place before you left! It will be a place of peace for you always. Brad (and Dan) have a sister buried next to their mom and it's such a special place. Hope things are going well in Maine!!
