Strawberry pickin'

Yesterday Finn and I went with some friends to pick strawberries at Maxwell's Farm in Cape Elizabeth. In the past, I've picked raspberries, blueberries, and grapes. It always took forever, and I was never much of a fan. Picking strawberries is cake! I was able to get over a pound in less than 15 minutes. So much faster, and way more satisfaction when it comes to picking strawberries than other, smaller fruit. I'm thinking we'll have to make another trip out there before they're all gone.

Lately, I've been noticing things about Maine and Mainers that I find to be really different than what I'm used to... Sometimes it almost feels like we're in a totally different country.

1 - Mainers call shopping carts "carriages." Weird. 2 - They use the word adorable a lot. Whenever Finn and I go to the grocery store, the word of choice to describe him is "adorable." 3 - They also really like to honk their car horns at everything. One day I noticed that the honking seemed to be overly excessive. I was running and multiple people honked when they went by me. I only know a handful of people, sooo I figured they probably weren't honking at me. Finally, I noticed that when they honked a squirrel was simultaneously running across the road. Mystery solved. They honk at all the squirrels so they don't squish them. 4 - One thing that I find to be really annoying is their sidewalk set-up (or lack thereof). Most of their sidewalks are made out of as-fault which means they're cheap. Because of this they fall apart and make it very difficult to push the jogging stroller on. 5 - When it comes to driving here, the lines are barely painted at all, which makes everyone just kind of drive all over the road. It's kind of funny. 6 - They also don't have many turning lanes. This means that you need to basically always drive in the right hand lane so you don't get stuck behind someone turning.

I'll try to pay attention and let you all know of any other idiosyncrasies I discover about Maine and its people. I am such a people watcher and love to notice the funny day-to-day things that are new to me. I'm sure there are bound to be some more!
